Misleading: No Publicly Available Evidence That Presidents Donald Trump And Kim Jong Un Agreed To Jointly Intervene In Uganda’s Politics, Militarily Or Otherwise

Uganda still operates as a sovereign state, and there is no evidence supporting the claims of a military intervention on behalf of the NUP. But there has been long standing allegation of external interventions into the politics of Uganda on behalf of the National Unity Platform on different fronts.

A social media post circulating on TikTok claims that the United States and North Korean President Kim Jong Un agreed to militarily intervene in Uganda’s politics at the request of the National Unity Platform (NUP) if Electoral Commission Chairperson Byabakama fails to declare Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) president.

The original claim was posted by Tasha 7News – The Times of NUP and later shared by Dickson256d  and attracted significant engagement, including 270 comments, 5,133 likes, and 743 shares. Although the same claim was later deleted from the X (formerly Twitter) account, it continues to circulate widely on TikTok.

Findings

When we checked U.S. President Donald Trump’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, we found no information or posts indicating that he met with North Korean President Kim Jong Un. Given the diplomatic weight of such a meeting, it would normally be publicly communicated through official channels.

In addition, a review of the official U.S. Embassy website showed no record or announcement of any event in which President Trump met Kim Jong Un. The absence of such information from both official and credible sources further suggests that the claim circulating online is unsupported with evidence.

We conducted a fact-check using Debunk InfoVerifier, an AI-assisted fact-checking tool. We searched the question: “Is it true that the U.S. and President Kim Jong Un have agreed to intervene militarily if Byabakama does not declare Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) president-elect?”

Results show that there’s no credible evidence to support the claim that the United States and Kim Jong Un have agreed to intervene militarily if Byabakama, the Electoral Commission chairperson, does not declare Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, as president-elect.”

We further conducted a Google search to verify the relationship between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un. According to BBC reports, the two leaders last met in February 2019, which is about 6 years ago.

Verdict:

Misleading: There is no evidence to support claims that the United States and North Korea agreed to militarily intervene in Uganda’s politics at NUP’s request if Byabakama does not declare Bobi Wine president-elect.
